what we do

Cleveland Peacemakers Alliance (CPA) enages community youth and program participants through case management services. Services include interactive programming, workforce assistance, safe housing, court support, safe passage, educational support, and other community connections.

our purpose

A neighborhood-based organization focused on preventing violence

In late 2015, Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland stepped up its efforts to curb street violence by taking over management of the Cleveland Peacemakers Alliance, an anti-crime initiative. Under BGCC management, the Peacemakers Alliance is an independent, neighborhood-based entity dedicated to maintaining peace and keeping young people out of gangs.

The Cleveland Peacemakers Alliance employs outreach workers – including some former gang members – who are credible messengers. The group is involved in mediation, gang interaction, violence prevention, conflict resolution, case management, family services, and hospital-based intervention following violent incidents.

A Word

From Our Executive Director

Working in violence prevention is very, very hard job and sometimes it feels like even your best is not good enough,” said Watkins. Sometimes we only pay attention to the most heightened areas of violence and one of those would be gun violence,” says Watkins. “But, there are other things that happen before someone decides to shoot and I think those are things we don’t pay attention to.

our community impact

Three Key Focus Areas:

Cleveland Peacemakers Alliance is working to make the city’s neighborhoods safer through street outreach, violence interruption, and involvement with those already in the justice system. Watch to find out more about our work and its impact.

  • Community Outreach and Engagement: We offer comprehensive social service support to ensure prompt, efficient referrals for services to the identified groups and individuals.
  • Court Advocacy and Support: We work with court-involved youth to take the steps they need to stay out of trouble and lead productive lives.
  • Trauma-Informed Community Violence Response: We have embedded violence interrupters at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center and MetroHealth Medical Center to counsel gunshot victims and their families, thereby serving as a deterrent to retaliatory violence.
Social Outreach Initiative

We offer comprehensive social service support to ensure prompt, efficient referrals for services to the identified groups and individuals, and intervene at the street level by consistently monitoring individuals and groups in higher-risk neighborhoods.

One-on-One Mentorship

Each participant is assigned a CPA Worker to provide positive adult interaction, a trusted voice of reason, and accountability.

Workforce Development

Employee-eligible participants receive help in obtaining job readiness skills, leads for position openings, transportation support, and additional resources.
